A: We know, it can get very confusing! On the one hand, you don't want to overpay for your project, nobody does. On the other hand, you don't want to pay too little. Many times that can actually turn out much worse than over-paying! There are several reasons for this.
Firstly, there are many contractors out there that are not really in it for the long haul. They are not really sure where they are going to be a few years from now, and quite frankly, most of them don't even care. Staying in business comes with a cost, e.g. honoring warranty claims, dealing with ever-increasing operating costs, downturns in the economy, etc. Many contractors do not even bother factoring these variables into their pricing. They just want to make a quick buck today, irregardless of the consequences that may come tomorrow.
Secondly, many contractors hire cheap, inexperienced labor to keep costs down. More often than not, this practice greatly compromises the overall quality of the job. Given the choice, what would you rather do?
